Where Can I Find SuperFoods?
Did you know that throughout your lifetime, you are never more than four feet from a superfood? Ok, maybe not that close, but certainly within walking distance. Either way, superfoods are much more prevalent and available than you think. Many people think incorporating them into their diet will be a difficult task. It is simply not so.
First, let’s group them into two types: the exotic and the everyday superfoods. As the name implies, the everyday superfoods are much easier to find. If they’re not already in your kitchen, you can surely find them at your local supermarket. Salmon, almonds, walnuts, spinach, kale, flax seeds, oatmeal, blueberries, and green tea should all be available in your town. Understanding how to utilize them is the only task which requires effort. Actually finding them is simple. For example, kale is found in most supermarket produce sections, but must be chewed thoroughly or blended to optimally absorb all the nutrients.
The exotic superfoods require a little more searching, though they have become much more prevalent in recent months. These foods are not native to the US, but are imported fresh, dried, or in supplement form. Pomegranates, goji berries, mangosteen, acai berries, and noni can be found in health food stores or high-end supermarkets. Ethnic markets may also carry varieties in dried or fresh forms, and are usually cheaper than the high-end supermarkets. At the very least, they can be ordered on the internet. Look for a distributor that sells quality products, and if you’re trying superfoods in supplement form, be sure to read all labels and ingredients before ordering.
The bottom line is, superfoods are available all around you if you know where to look. Whether it’s the unused can of oatmeal in the kitchen cabinet, to the never-before-visited bulk section of the grocery store, to a dried-fruit importer on the internet, superfoods are there, and ready to make you healthy.
